MRI
MRI is a test that uses powerful magnets and radio waves to construct pictures of the body. MRI provides superior tissue imaging and can assist in making definitive diagnoses or evaluate response to therapy.
Please notify our staff if you have a metallic object implanted in your body such as an artificial joint, a pacemaker, a piercing or a vascular stent as these may prevent you from being able to undergo MRI.
Preparation
To prepare, dress in clothing that does not contain metal fasteners and remove all jewelry, hairpins and other similar metallic items.
Our staff will inform you if dietary restrictions are required. This is based on the body area being studied.
There is a consent form for this procedure.
Procedure
During the test, you will be asked to lie on a narrow table that slides into a large tunnel-like tube. Please notify our staff if you have difficulty being in confined spaces as this a very confined space. You may wear a blindfold if this would be helpful to you.
Testing is not associated with any pain or discomfort, however the table may be hard and/or cold. Secondly, the machine does produce loud thumping and humming noises during operation. Earplugs may be worn to reduce the noise.
The MRI scan takes approximately one hour to perform.
