Ultrasound
Ultrasound involves the use of high-frequency sound waves to create images of organs and systems within the body. An ultrasound machine creates images that allow various organs in the body to be examined.
Preparation
Preparation for the test depends on the body region being examined. Our staff will notify you of any restrictions. There is a consent form for this procedure.
Procedure
During the test, you will be asked to lie down on a table and a clear, water-based conducting gel will be applied to the skin over the area being examined. This gel helps to transmit the sound waves. A handheld probe, called a transducer, is then moved over the area being examined.
An ultrasound typically takes less than one hour to perform.
