Genetic Testing and Counseling

Genetic testing is performed on patients with certain cancers when there is concern that a genetic syndrome may be contributing to a patients’ cancer diagnosis.

We offer education and testing for common genetic syndromes such as BRCA 1 and BRCA 2 (hereditary breast and ovarian cancer) and for colon cancer syndromes such as HNPCC (hereditary nonpolyposis colon cancer) and PAP (familial adenomatous polyposis colon cancer).

We have on-staff genetic educators who, along with your physician, can review your personal and family history, counsel you on whether you are an appropriate candidate, and review the risk and benefits of genetic testing. Your physician will make this referral.

Consultation with a genetic educator is performed at our office and consists of an appointment to explain the above information as well as to obtain insurance verification. If you have questions or want further information on genetic testing, please ask your physician.
