Jeffrey F. Porter, Ph.D.
Director of Behavioral Oncology
Dr. Porter completed his undergraduate education at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. He earned his doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Western Michigan University. He completed his internship in medical psychology at Penn State Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania. Following completion of a clinical and academic fellowship in Health Psychology at the Consortium for Advanced Psychology Training/Hurley Medical Center/Michigan State University, Dr. Porter stayed on at Hurley Medical Center as the Director of Oncologic Psychology before transitioning into a purely clinical role at the Genesys Hurley Cancer Institute in Flint, Michigan. He is a member of the American Psychological Association and the American Psychosocial Oncology Society. Dr. Porter joined Cancer and Hematology Centers of Western Michigan in 2006.
Shanna Matheson, LMSW, ACSW
Shanna Matheson is a licensed clinical social worker with over 15 years of experience in the field of cancer and hematology. She earned her bachelor degree in Social Work from Western Michigan University before going on to earn her master’s degree in Social Work from Grand Valley State University. From 1992 through 2002, Shanna worked as a clinical social worker at Spectrum Health’s Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in the Pediatric Oncology and Hematology Unit/Clinic. She joined Cancer and Hematology Centers of Western Michigan in 2002 where she developed and now manages the Oncology Social Work Department. Current organizations to which she belongs are the Association of Oncology Social Workers, the National Association of Social Workers, and the Academy of Certified Social Workers.
