Pamidronate disodium belongs to a specific class of calcium-lowering agents called biphosphonates used to treat hypercalcemia (high calcium level in the blood).
How Drug Works:
Pamidronate disodium stops bone breakdown, so calcium is not released from the bones into the blood. It is used to treat bone metastases from breast cancer.
How Drug Is Given:
Pamidronate disodium is given by injection in a vein over 2 to 4 hours. The dose is the same for all adults. You may also get fluids by vein to help your kidneys make urine.

More Common Side Effects
  • Fever lasting for a short time 24 to 48 hours after infusion
  • Pain at place of injection
  • Irritation of vein used for giving the drug
Less Common Side Effects
  • Nausea
  • Constipation
  • Decreased appetite
Rare Side Effects
  • Vomiting
  • Abdominal discomfort
Other side effects not listed above can also occur in some patients. Tell your doctor or nurse if you develop any problems.
