CHCWM Clinical Trials and Research

Clinical trials and research have become integral parts of cancer care at every major cancer treatment center across the United States. At CHCWM, we are committed to enhancing the patient care experience by integrating cutting edge clinical trial and research options for our patients. Our goal is to develop a world-class clinical research program that will give patients in West Michigan treatment options that may otherwise be available only at major academic centers.

What is a clinical trial?

A clinical trial is a research study that has been tested in the laboratory and is now ready for human participants. Clinical trials, which may include new drugs or surgical procedures and ways of managing side effects, are critical to the development of new cancer treatments. These trials are overseen by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), a local institutional review board and a physician who is specially trained to manage clinical trials.

Cancer & Hematology Centers of Western Michigan also offers participation in industry and nationally sponsored research studies. Our team will give you all the information you need in order to decide whether participating in experimental treatment is right for you.
