We recognize insurance contracts can be confusing and the cost of health care overwhelming. For this reason, we have a staff of insurance specialists and financial coordinators ready to help you with this process. In turn, we ask you to be familiar with the major details of your policy including prior authorizations, co-pays and deductibles.
Keeping us informed of your most current insurance information is the first step. Please bring your insurance cards to each visit. Our registration specialist will ask for your card when you check in and make a copy for our files. We use this information to verify your coverage and implement assistance where indicated. In addition, our registration specialist will collect your co-pay and/or receive any payments on outstanding balances.
Insurance Authorization and Billing
We have relationships with many insurance groups. Click here for a current list of participating insurances. This means we are able to bill them directly for services you receive here. In the event that you need chemotherapy, we will contact your insurance company before you begin (a process called “prior authorization”) to confirm you have coverage for such therapy. This process can often take 3 to 5 days to complete. A financial coordinator will then call or meet with you to review your benefits and estimated cost of treatment and personal responsibility. If we discover that you do not have coverage, be assured that we will investigate potential resources for you (visit Financial Assistance for some options). This process will include a meeting with one of our staff social workers.
Statements are sent out on a monthly basis. Any charges that remain after your insurance has paid are your responsibility. For your convenience we accept cash, check, money order, debit cards, MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover. You can quickly and easily pay your bill by accessing Pay Your Bill. Please contact our collections specialist at 616 -954-5550 ext. 7060. If you have trouble paying, and we will set up a contracted payment plan.
Non Participating Insurance
If we are not contracted as a participating provider with your insurance company, please be aware you are responsible for whatever portion of the bill is not paid by your insurance. This includes any amount the insurance company may indicate is above usual and customary.
A fee is charged for family visits with the physician when the patient is not present. This service is not a covered benefit with insurance so payment is expected at the time of service.
If you ever wish to speak with one of our insurance specialists about your insurance coverage or billing statement, please feel free to call the office or notify our receptionist when you register. You may contact them through our main phone line at (616) 954-9800 or toll free at (800) 411-7999.
