Advanced Stage Cancer Program
We recognize that if you’ve recently been diagnosed with advanced cancer, or if you’ve learned that your disease has progressed, it can be a difficult time. Our mission is to support you in all ways possible. In addition to the physical burden of a cancer diagnosis, we understand the emotional, psychological, and financial toll it can take. For that reason, we have made available a few key services, as part of the Advanced Stage Cancer Program, that are designed to help address your needs during this stage of your cancer journey. Included in our Advanced Stage Cancer Program are the following referrals:
Behavioral Oncology: The goal of our behavioral oncology program is to help you successfully adjust to your cancer and the changes it brings to your life. Our behavioral oncology services are provided by a medical psychologist with specialized training and more than 10 years of experience in the field of oncology. He will work alongside your oncologist and nurse to support you on your cancer journey. Using approaches that are well-supported by scientific research and years of experience, our psychologist supports patients in better understanding their illness and treatment and managing problems such as depression and anxiety, cancer-related fatigue, insomnia, uncontrollable worry, adjustment difficulties and family concerns. You can choose to meet with our behavioral oncology provider alone or with family members present.
Advance Care Planning: Our trained advance care planning facilitators will help you and your loved ones discuss your goals and wishes regarding your medical care in a safe, structured environment. Whether it becomes necessary or not, having a plan in place helps your care team and your loved ones better understand what decisions should be made if you are ever unable to make them for yourself. In order to legally assign someone to make these decisions for you, our facilitator will assist you in completing an advance directive.
