Thyroid Cancer

This cancer forms in the thyroid gland, an organ at the base of the throat that makes hormones that help control heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature and weight. There are four main types of thyroid cancer as identified by their appearance under a microscope: papillary, follicular, medullary and anaplastic.

Symptoms:

  • A lump in the neck
  • Trouble breathing
  • Trouble swallowing
  • Hoarseness

Treatment:

Different treatments are available for patients with thyroid cancer, including clinical trials of new treatments for patients with cancer.
